My Father’s World‘s God’s Creation from A to Z curriculum is broken into six day unit studies. Each unit has a main study that is tied into a bible concept. I love that everything we are studying is all tied in together. We had fun incorporating our bible concept into our studies about the sun. In this unit we made raisins, made sun prints, and chased shadows. This week we studied the Sun. Our bible concept for the week is “Jesus is the light of the world”.
For bible we learned that just how the sun shines light on the world, Jesus is the light of the world too. We learned that if we stay in Jesus’s light, he will guide us. The first day we learned some facts about the sun, read “My Shadow” poem by Robert Louis Stevenson. For each unit we cut out pictures that start with the letter we are studying and practice our phonics.
The next day we started our science project of making raisins this project is still going and I will update our progress as it goes. We have our raisins located on our kitchen window ledge. This area gets a lot of sun light through out the day and we don’t have to worry about birds and squirrels getting to it outside.
We also made a sundial, each hour we would go outside and mark the time. My son would guess which direction the shadow would be next time we checked on it, of course he was right every time!
Practicing our ABC’s by putting them in order and sounding out each letter.
I had found Lego Duplo Alphabet worksheets for my two year old to work on when we worked on the Cuisenaire Rods Alphabet worksheet but my kinder wanted to work on it too. It worked out great as he got in some extra practice writing the letter S. We did this in addition to our Cuisenaire Rods Alphabet Book.
We made sun prints, my kinder made a smiley face using his legos and my two-year-old wanted to put leaves on paper. We used construction paper and left them outside in the sun most of the day.
We wrapped up this unit reading Moonbear’s Shadow by Frank Asch. My boys absolutely love this story and has asked to read it several times. My kinder was so excited to learn that we are keeping this book for our library.
Thanks for letting us share our week with you. Many blessings!
